About this product

The Coledale is made in Portugal with a Norwegian welt: the upper is turned out and stitched to the midsole, which shows as a double row of stitching around the edge. A cobbler can unpick it and resole the boot several times.

There's no membrane. Thick 3mm waxed leather and a full leather lining keep out a day of wet grass and bog as long as you keep them waxed. They weigh 1,820g a pair in a UK 8, and your feet stay cooler than in a membrane boot.

  • Norwegian-welted construction, stitched and resoleable
  • 3mm waxed full-grain leather upper
  • Full leather lining with no membrane
  • Leather and cork midsole under a Holdfast rubber sole

    Lovely, but heavy

Beautifully made and I can see them lasting decades. They are heavy though, and by the end of a long day on Rombalds Moor I noticed it.

    Old-fashioned in a good way

Took a month of evening walks to break in. Now they're the most comfortable boots I've owned and my feet don't sweat like they did in membrane boots. Keep them waxed and they're dry enough for The Cheviot.
