Repairs

Our technicians work at repair benches in 41 shops, and any of our shops will take your repair in. Last year they mended 48,000 items, most of them zips, seams and broken tent poles.

Hale waterproofs and packs carry our lifetime repair promise: tear one, bring it in, and we will repair it for as long as you own it, member or not. Join the Club and we repair the rest of your Hale and Swift kit free as well. Members can also put their repair credit towards paid repairs.

How to book a repair

  1. Bring the item to any shop, or book in the app and drop it off. Please bring it clean and dry.
  2. A colleague looks at it with you and explains what it needs. If you are paying, we tell you the price before any work starts.
  3. You get a repair ticket with the ready date on it. If your shop has no bench, we send the item to the nearest shop that has one.
  4. Collect it from the shop where you left it.

The average turnaround last year was nine days. Boots go to a specialist workshop in Northamptonshire for resoling, which takes longer, and the shop will give you a date. If you have a question before you come in, call customer services on 01632 960 123.

Six more shops get a repair bench by the end of January 2027, which will make 47. Every bench has at least two trained technicians.

What we repair

Most of our work is replacing zips, re-taping seams and swapping broken tent pole sections. We also patch tears in waterproofs, tents and down jackets, replace buckles and straps on packs, wash and reproof waterproofs, and wash sleeping bags and down jackets.

Our suppliers send us offcuts of each season's fabric, so a patch on Hale or Swift kit matches the colour. New Hale jackets and packs use a short list of standard zips and buckles that every bench keeps in stock, and we hold spare parts for at least seven years after a line ends.

Prices for non-members

These are our typical prices for repairs that are not free. Every item is different, so we confirm the price before we start. Club members pay the same prices for kit from other brands.

Trade in your old kit

If a Hale or Swift jacket, pack or tent no longer suits you, Club members can bring it to any shop and trade it in for a credit voucher worth up to £40, depending on what it is and its condition. Our team at Huntworth or a repair bench cleans, checks, mends and reproofs it, and it goes back on sale through Hale Again at 40% to 60% of the new price. Anything we cannot resell is stripped for parts for the benches.

Hale Again is in 14 shops and online now, and 24 shops will stock it by early 2027.

Looking after kit at home

All Hale waterproofs and the Swift range now use PFAS-free water-repellent finishes, which need reproofing more often. Wash a jacket with a technical cleaner, then tumble dry it on low if the label allows: gentle heat brings the finish back. When water soaks in instead of beading on the surface, it is time to reproof. Wash-in and spray-on products are in reproofing, or the bench can do it for you.
