About this product

At 540g the Merl weighs about two thirds as much as a framed daypack of the same size. It closes with a roll top, has a long side zip so you can reach your jacket without unrolling it, and a stretch front pocket for a wet shell. We designed it for days like the Fairfield Horseshoe done at a good clip.

The back is a channelled foam pad with a thin aluminium stay that slides out. Each shoulder strap has a stretch pocket, one sized for a 500ml soft flask. The fabric is recycled gridstop nylon with the PFAS-free finish used across Swift since 2026.

  • Roll-top closure with a side zip for quick access
  • Removable aluminium stay in a channelled foam back
  • Shoulder strap pockets, one for a 500ml soft flask
  • Removable 20mm webbing hip belt
  • Weighs 540g

    Light and it stays put

Took it round the Fairfield Horseshoe on a Trail Panel test in September. Nothing bounced when I jogged down into Rydal, and the side zip saved me unrolling the top in the rain.
