About this product
Take the Shieling when you carry everything: tent, stove and a week of food on the Cape Wrath Trail, for example. Twin aluminium stays and a moulded hip belt take up to 20kg, and the back adjusts by 10cm.
The lid converts to a 6-litre hip pack for a day away from camp. There is a sleeping bag compartment, a side zip into the main body and a rain cover. Every buckle, zip and stay is a standard Hale part, and we keep spares for seven years after a line ends.

Heavy but tough
Two kilos empty is a lot, but it's taken a beating on Dartmoor expedition training with the school group I help with and it still looks new. I wish the hip belt pockets were waterproof.

Cape Wrath and back
Carried around 19kg out of Fort William at the start of the Cape Wrath Trail and it was fine all the way to the lighthouse. The hip belt never slipped.
